About this spot

This is a historic townscape that flourished as a post town on the Nakasendo during the Edo period. Buildings that retain the atmosphere of storehouse-style merchant houses and inns line the street, conveying the ambience of the travelers who once passed through here. It's also close to the Oiden Festival venue, so watching preparations for the festival progress as you stroll is one of the pleasures. Start your day by touching the history of the Nakasendo, ahead of the evening's fireworks.

Tips

About a 10-minute walk from Nakatsugawa Station (中津川駅). Sunlight is strong in summer, so a hat or parasol will help. Since the street is also a residential road, please stroll quietly and be considerate of local residents.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Late morning to midday, before the sunlight gets too strong, is an easy time to walk
