Next stop: Watch fireworks rise into the night sky from the mouth of the great Gonokawa RiverAbout this spot
Prefectural Route 238 connects Gotsu Port with National Route 9, running along the port as its name suggests. Gotsu Port is a local port designated in 1953, opened near the mouth of the Gonokawa River, a Class A river, and has long supported the logistics of local industries such as pulp production materials and ceramics materials. The fireworks of the Gonokawa Festival are also launched over this river-mouth area. Food stalls line the street in the evening, so you can grab a bite while securing a spot to watch. The moment when the scenery where the great river meets the sea turns amber is also a highlight.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from the Gotsu riverside. Roads in the area get congested from evening onward on the day of the fireworks festival, so allow extra time to travel. It's reassuring to buy your food and drinks early.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. The time when sunset shifts into night is a highlight
