About this spot

The riverbed of the Anabuki River, which rises at Mt. Tsurugi and flows from Koyadaira through Anabuki-cho in Mima City before joining the Yoshino River. Known for its clear water, it's introduced by Mima City as Japan's finest clear stream, and in summer it draws people from in and outside the prefecture for river play. Settle in at the open riverbed and cool off with a pre-fireworks meal from a takeout dinner. The way the water's surface turns amber as the sun sets is also a sight unique to this time of day.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from the Mima City Tourism and Culture Museum. Roads in the area get congested from evening onward on the day of the fireworks festival, so allow extra time to travel. Some spots on the riverbed can be soft underfoot, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
