A museum housed in the building of a merchant house that made its fortune in the indigo trade during the Edo period. Everyday items, business tools, and materials related to indigo dyeing from that era are on display, letting you learn in detail about how the Udatsu Townscape came to prosper. It's a rare opportunity to view the interior of an actual merchant house and learn the story behind the townscape you've seen while walking. Take your time to explore this history in the calm interior.
Tips
About 5 minutes on foot from Wakimachi Theater Odeon-za. The building includes tatami-mat rooms, so there are areas where you'll need to remove your shoes. Traveling by car is convenient for the next stop, the Yoshino River riverbed.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. Recommended as a stop to close out your walk through the townscape
