About this spot

This plaza, developed on the Sekigawa riverbed, serves as the venue for the Doi Summer Festival fireworks. It's normally known as a spot for early Kawazu-zakura cherry blossoms, drawing crowds for flower viewing in late February, and it also becomes a relaxing gathering place for the Doi area, lit up with illuminations in winter. As evening falls during the festival, food stalls line up, filling the area with the warm liveliness unique to a summer festival built by the whole community. Settle in by the riverside and fill up on food stall fare or takeout dinner. Watching the river surface turn the colors of sunset is another pleasure that belongs to this time of day.

Tips

A short walk or drive from around Furusato Plaza. The surrounding roads get crowded from evening onward on the day of the fireworks festival, so allow plenty of time to get there. It's also a good idea to get your food and drinks ahead of time.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. The transition from sunset to nightfall is a highlight.
