About this spot

A free botanical garden spread at the foot of Mt. Hachijo-Fuji (八丈富士), full of tropical mood with its subtropical plants such as phoenix palms and cycads. The grounds are well maintained and easy to walk, and there's an animal petting corner too, making it popular with families. From the observation deck you can view the ocean and Mt. Hachijo-Fuji (八丈富士) at the same time, making it the perfect spot to start your day right after arriving on the island. Simply walking through the lush grounds lets you feel a tropical air that seems hard to believe is part of Tokyo.

Tips

Reachable by bus or rental car from the airport or port. Admission is free. The grounds are large, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The next stop, Fureai Ranch (ふれあい牧場), is a few minutes away by car.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. The cool hours from morning into early afternoon are easiest for walking
