About this spot

Hachijojima's (八丈島) only artificial sand beach, right by Sokodo Port (底土港). It's known for its highly transparent sea, called 'Hachijo Blue,' where you can swim alongside the sea turtles that live at this beach, and for the coral reef spreading out a little offshore. Restrooms, showers, and changing rooms are all available. The fireworks festival is also held on this coast, so after fully enjoying the island for a day, have dinner here, and as the sun starts to go down, lay out a leisure sheet to stake out your viewing spot.

Tips

On the day of the fireworks festival, eateries near the coast get crowded, so an early visit is recommended. There's a sea breeze at night, so a light jacket is reassuring. It's also a good idea to check restroom locations while it's still light out.
