Admire Exquisite Carvings at the Ancient Shrine Protecting Uraga
About this spot
A shrine situated on the hilltop of Nishi-Uraga, featuring exquisite dragon and lion carvings adorning the shrine building as its main highlight. Since the Edo period, it has gathered the faith of the people of the port town of Uraga, and together with Higashi Kano Shrine on the opposite shore, has been cherished as "Uraga's Kano Shrine." From the grounds reached by climbing stone steps, you can look down at the traditional townscape characteristic of a port town. This is a fitting starting point for learning about the history of Uraga Port, where fireworks will light up tonight.
