Trace an Ancient Irrigation Canal Associated with Empress Jingū
About this spot
An ancient irrigation canal recorded in the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan), said to have been built by order of Empress Jingū and considered one of Japan's oldest agricultural waterways. Nearly 1,800 years later, it still operates in its original function, irrigating fields and paddies. The site is designated as a National Historic Site. Walking along the gently flowing waterway through rural farmland, you can truly appreciate the high civil engineering skills of ancient people and the deep history of agriculture in this region. The lush green of summer paddies and the gentle murmur of the water course create a pleasant walking experience.

Tips
荒天時は中止となる場合があるため、当日は那珂川市の公式発表で確認を。会場周辺の駐車場は台数が限られるため、早めの到着がおすすめです。終了後は周辺道路が混み合うため、しばらく余韻を楽しんでからの帰宅がスムーズです。

About 10 minutes by car from Genjin Shrine. The path along the waterway has some unpaved sections, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Summer sun is strong—don't forget a hat and drinks. It's about 10 minutes by car to the next stop, Nakagawa City Central Park.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes required. Early afternoon when the sun is not too intense is recommended.
