Touch upon History at an Ancient Temple Founded in the Nara Period

About this spot

One of the national monasteries built throughout Japan by imperial decree during the Nara period, this ancient temple is said to have thrived as the provincial temple of Buzen. Foundation stones remain on the temple grounds, evidence of the seven-story pagoda that once stood there, allowing visitors to imagine the grandeur of those times. The current main hall stands in quiet repose, cherished today as a place of worship for local people. This is a fitting starting point for experiencing the depth of Miyako Town's history.
