Next stop: Stroll the historic barrier ruins and the poetry path overlooking the seaAbout this spot
This is the very first store where the food supermarket chain Maruto (マルト) began its history as a supermarket. It opened in November 1998 in Sekita-nishi, Nakoso-machi, and was renovated and reopened in 2016. A liquor shop is also attached. Before heading to the fireworks display, it's reassuring to stock up here on a bento box, side dishes, and drinks for dinner. While not a major tourist spot, it's also a place where you can get a feel for everyday life in southern Iwaki City.
Tips
Just steps from Nakoso Station, with parking available in front of the station if you're driving. Business hours vary by store, so it's reassuring to check in advance. It's about a 10-minute drive to the next stop, the ruins of Nakoso Barrier.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes needed. The early-afternoon hours are relatively calm for browsing.
