Next stop: A Leisurely Stroll Along the Riverside PromenadeAbout this spot
A historic hot spring town spreading along the banks of the Usui River. Known as the birthplace of Japan's hot spring map symbol, it has streets lined with old-fashioned hot spring inns and rice-cracker shops that you can stroll along at your own pace. You may also catch glimpses of festival preparations underway ahead of the summer evening, letting you fully soak up the atmosphere of a hot spring town loved by locals.
Tips
About a 10-minute drive from the shopping street in front of Annaka Station. Some rice-cracker shops sell snacks you can eat while walking, so stop by if you get a little hungry. The summer sun is strong during the day, so a hat is a good idea.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. The soft afternoon sunlight makes for a pleasant walk through the hot spring town.
