About this spot

The riverbed of the Usui River, flowing right beside the Isobe Onsen hot spring town, is the stage for the fireworks display. Isobe Onsen is known as the birthplace of the hot spring symbol: the hot spring symbol depicted in an attached diagram of a verdict issued by the Edo Shogunate in the 4th year of Manji (1661) has been confirmed as the oldest one used in Japan. Bustling with travelers and hot-spring visitors traveling the Nakasendo road, it is a hot spring town with views of Mount Myogi, one of Japan's three great scenic wonders. On the day of the fireworks display, food stalls line the area, so after returning from your riverside stroll, secure your viewing spot and have dinner.

Tips

From evening onward on the day of the fireworks display, the surrounding roads become congested. It's recommended to get food early, before the stalls get crowded. Please take your trash home with you.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. The time around sunset, when the lights of the hot spring town begin to glow, is recommended.
