About this spot

This is the port where the boat to the remote island of Matsushima (松島) departs and arrives. The Saikai City-operated boat New Matsushima (New松島) runs the 2.4-kilometer route between Seto Port and Kamaura Port (釜浦港) on Matsushima. Matsushima is an inhabited remote island with an area of 6.39 square kilometers, home to Japan's first coal-fired power plant to use imported coal. As evening falls, summer-festival food stalls line up, and you can enjoy classic festival tastes while watching the boats moored in the harbor. As the sun sets, viewing spots fill up, so secure a comfortable spot early.

Tips

A short walk or drive from Ōseto Fureai Ichi (大瀬戸ふれあい市). Check the day's official announcement for the event schedule in advance. The area around the venue gets crowded from evening onward, so arriving early is reassuring.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes. The festival atmosphere builds from evening into the night.
