Shiudeyama Summit Observatory (紫雲出山山頂展望台)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This observatory sits atop Shiudeyama (elevation 352m), a mountain jutting into the sea in Takuma-cho, Mitoyo City. Its highlight is the 360-degree view of islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea, including the Shonai Peninsula, Awashima, and Shishijima, and on clear days you can even see as far as the Shikoku mountains. It's also known as a cherry-blossom spot, but the view of scattered islands in the crisp summer air is equally special. You can drive all the way to the summit, and the viewing area is just steps from the parking lot, making it an easy stop to start the day even with small children.

Tips

There are narrow sections on the road up to the summit, so drive slowly. Restrooms are available at the observatory. The view is especially clear in the cool morning hours, which we recommend.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. In the morning, when the air is clear, you can see the distant island silhouettes vividly.
