About this spot

A habitat, rare nationwide, of Akkeshiso (glasswort, also called sango-so) that spreads across the reclaimed land of Yorishima-cho. This annual plant favors salty wetlands, and as autumn deepens, it's known for turning a vivid crimson reminiscent of coral, with early November marking the peak viewing period. A boardwalk lets visitors observe it up close without damaging the wetland, which is part of its appeal. Known as one of the few clusters of its kind in Japan, it lets families enjoy a rare, seasonal splash of natural color.

Tips

About a 5-minute drive from Saburo-jima Island. Please stay on the boardwalk. The peak season shifts slightly from year to year, so enjoy the changing colors as you stroll.
