About this spot

This is Yokkaichi's leading summer festival, held in 2026 over two days, Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, around Mitaki-dori (三滝通り) and Suwa Shindo (諏訪新道). On the first day, the main event begins at 3:30 PM, with the mass dancing of the Dai-Yokkaichi dance, uniquely characterful festival floats, and whale boats parading out one after another, dyeing the entire town in festival colors. From local dance troupes to circles open to general participation, the sight of people of all ages filling the streets in yukata is a scene symbolic of summer in Yokkaichi. As the sun sets and the lanterns light up, join the circle of dancing together as a family, amid the excitement of taiko drums and cheers echoing through the air.

Tips

Large-scale traffic restrictions are put in place around the venue on the day, so using public transportation is recommended. With large crowds expected, it's reassuring to decide on a meeting spot beforehand in case you get separated. Check the organizer's information in advance for whether the event will go ahead in bad weather.

Best time to visit

From the 3:30 PM start. From 5:00 PM onward, once the sun sets and the lanterns light up, is when the excitement is at its fullest.
