This stone marker is one of many used by Edo-period travelers as distance guides along the Old Tokaido Road, and it stands as a historic landmark preserving the memory of Tonda district, once a post town on the ancient route. In those days, mounds were built on both sides of the road with trees planted for traveler safety. Today, the site is carefully preserved by local residents, quietly nestled in a residential neighborhood—a perfect place to reflect on the people who once traveled this historic road. It's an ideal starting point for a historical walk through the Tonda district, site of the festival.

四日市市富田一色町の鳥出神社に江戸時代から伝わる、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定された勇壮な祭りです。鯨をかたどった木製の山車「鯨船」を若者たちが担ぎ、「ヤーレ」の掛け声とともに境内から町なかを練り歩きます。かつて捕鯨で栄えた地域の歴史と、豊漁への感謝の気持ちが込められた行事で、2026年は9月26日(土)・27日(日)の2日間開催されます。担ぎ手の熱気と観客の歓声が一体となる様子は、四日市の秋を代表する風物詩です。

Tips

鯨船が練り歩くルート周辺は混雑するため、見学場所は早めに確保しましょう。近鉄富田駅または近鉄富田一色駅から徒歩でのアクセスがおすすめです。
