About this spot

This is one of the ichirizuka milestone mounds that Edo-period travelers used as distance markers, and it's a historic site that conveys to this day the history of the Tomida district, once a post town on the old Tokaido (東海道). Mounds were once built on both sides of the highway, planted with trees that watched over the safety of travelers. It's still carefully preserved by the local community today, and its quiet presence tucked away in a residential neighborhood lets you picture the people who once traveled back and forth along the Tokaido. It's the perfect first step for a historical walk through the Tomida district, the stage of the festival.

Easily accessible within walking distance of Kintetsu Tomida Station (近鉄富田駅). It's located within a residential neighborhood, so please be considerate of local residents when visiting.
