Western Japan's premier railway museum displays approximately 50 actual steam locomotives and Shinkansen vehicles. The sight of steam locomotives lined up in the historic fan-shaped roundhouse is spectacular. The museum offers hands-on experiences such as driving simulators and detailed train model dioramas perfect for children. The air-conditioned interior is ideal for escaping summer heat, and the facility has enough content for a full day of family enjoyment. Adjacent to Umekoji Park makes it easy to combine outdoor and indoor activities.

世界遺産・西本願寺の北境内地を会場に、毎年夏に開かれる納涼盆踊りです。2026年は7月30日(木)・31日(金)の2日間、16時から20時40分まで開催され、境内には屋台が並び、地域の人々や観光客で賑わいます。世界遺産の荘厳な建物を背景に、櫓を囲んで踊りの輪が広がる光景は、京都の夏ならではの趣があります。1日かけて巡ってきた下京エリアの寺社めぐりの締めくくりに、家族で盆踊りの輪に加わってみましょう。

Tips

京都駅からも徒歩圏内でアクセス良好です。屋台の営業時間はイベント時間内に限られるため、夕食を兼ねる場合は早めの来場がおすすめです。世界遺産の境内であることを踏まえ、マナーを守って楽しみましょう。
