Next stop: A Museum Encountering the World of Works by a Japanese-Style Painter from FukuchiyamaAbout this spot
This museum conveys the wisdom of the people of Fukuchiyama, a town repeatedly hit by flooding of the Yura River (由良川), who have lived while facing flood damage head-on. It preserves an actual traditional evacuation structure called 《mizuka》, built on a raised mound of earth higher than the main house, which you can go and see for yourself. It's a valuable facility for learning about the ingenuity of life coexisting with natural disaster, and visiting it together with Fukuchiyama Castle deepens your understanding of this land's history even further.
Tips
Located right next to Fukuchiyama Castle (福知山城), making it easy to visit together. Admission requires a fee. The building isn't very large, so it's a facility that's easy to visit even in a short time.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. A good timing to stop by right after visiting Fukuchiyama Castle.
