Next stop: An early evening stroll and dinner near the station close to the festival venueAbout this spot
An ancient shrine set in the mountains of Shiroishi Town, with a history among the most notable in the Hizen region. Its long, green-canopied approach and moss-covered stone steps add to its charm, and the air beneath the trees stays cool even in summer. While it is also known as a spot for autumn foliage, walking among the deep summer greenery has its own special appeal. The grounds are quiet and uncrowded, making it a perfect place to pause and catch your breath before the lively festival ahead. It is about a 20-minute drive from Omachi.
Tips
The approach includes stone steps, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended over sandals. Insect repellent is a good idea in summer, as bugs are common. The grounds are richly natural with plenty of shade, making it a useful rest stop as well.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. Walking the shaded approach in the afternoon, once the sunlight has softened, is especially pleasant.
