About this spot

This river flows through Kimobetsu Town and empties into the Shiribetsu River. It's the river the town takes its name from, said to derive from the Ainu 'Kim-o-pet', meaning 'river with many mountains'. Kimobetsu Town, spreading across the eastern foot of Mt. Yotei, has been certified by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as a 'Water Village' blessed with excellent water quality and abundant flow. Relaxing while listening to the river's murmur makes for a pleasant way to beat the heat before the summer festival.

Tips

Stay away from the river when water levels rise. Some spots underfoot can be slippery, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended over sandals if you plan to play by the water. There's little shade, so prepare drinks and sun protection.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The sunlight softens and it's more comfortable as evening approaches.
