This municipal museum introduces how the town of Noda came to be and the history it walked together with soy sauce brewing. The adjoining Civic Hall is a Japanese-style building that makes use of a former soy sauce brewer's residence, a quiet space where you can look out on the garden from the tatami rooms. Take a breather on the veranda after seeing the exhibits and you will feel the morning heat drain away. The scale is modest, but what makes it interesting is how the story of the makers you saw at the soy sauce museum connects with the story of the people who lived in this town. Telling children 「this is an old house from the soy sauce town we just saw」 helps it click.
Tips
There are closed days, so check the opening days in the official information before you go. You will step up into tatami rooms, so shoes that slip on and off easily make things simpler. The garden has plenty of shade and makes a comfortable rest spot even on a hot day. Parking is limited, so follow the guidance during busy periods.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. A summer morning, when the garden greenery is at its deepest, is especially pleasant.
