This is the Gion Festival held at Yaegaki Shrine, which sits in the heart of Yokaichiba. In 2026 it runs for two days, August 4 to 5, from 18:40 to 22:00, with floats parading through the surrounding area to the sound of Gion music. Said to date back to the Edo period, this historic festival lets you feel up close the traditional excitement as the community comes together to liven up the town. As the close of a day spent experiencing temple and shrine culture at Iko-ji and Myofuku-ji, enjoy the night festival together with your family.

Tips

The float parade route and timing can vary by year, so it's reassuring to check the guidance on the day. Crowds can build up at certain times, so hold hands with small children while moving around. Temperatures can drop at night, so a light jacket is comfortable to have.
