About this spot
This is the 《Chinowa Festival》, held at Itakiso Shrine, the ichinomiya (leading shrine) of Kii Province dedicated to Isotakeru-no-Mikoto, the god of trees. In 2026, it takes place over two days, July 30–31; on the first day, passing through the chinowa ring begins at 18:00, and on the 31st, the main shrine rite is also held from 11:00. Passing through the large chinowa ring set up in the shrine grounds is a traditional event believed to purify the impurities accumulated over summer and pray for good health through the rest of the season. Located close to Itakiso Station on the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line, you can end your family's day amid the quiet, wooded shrine grounds.
