Pass through the large ritual rope and perform the traditional purification ritual

About this spot

The "Kaji Tori Festival" held at Itakiso Shrine, Kii Province's primary shrine dedicated to Inatake no Mikoto, the god of trees. In 2026, the festival runs for two days, July 30-31, with the ritual rope purification beginning at 6:00 PM on opening day and the main temple ceremony at 11:00 AM on July 31. By passing through the large ritual rope set up in the shrine grounds, participants purify the spiritual impurities accumulated over summer and pray for health through the remainder of the season. Located near Itakiso Station on the Wakayama Electric Railway Kigawa Line, the shrine's serene grounds provide a perfect setting to conclude your family's day.
