This community-wide summer festival runs from the Sayama-shi Station West Exit Citizens' Plaza (狭山市駅西口市民広場) to Tanabata-dori Shopping Street (七夕通り商店街); in 2026 it runs from 12:00 to 21:00 on August 1 and from 12:00 to 20:00 on August 2. Colorful Tanabata decorations line the shopping street overhead, creating a vivid summer scene under the open sky. On August 1, food stalls line the Tanabata-dori Shopping Street from 12:00 to 20:30, keeping things lively for hours from midday into the night. Being able to enjoy both the bright look of the decorations right after the noon start and their fantastical look once the lights come on at night, all in a single day, is part of what makes this festival special.

Since the festival runs for many hours, remember to take breaks and stay hydrated. Sun protection is important during the day due to strong sunlight. Crowds increase at night, so be careful not to get separated from children.

Best time to visit

From the 12:00 start until 21:00. After 17:00, as the sun begins to set, the Tanabata decorations look especially beautiful lit by the sunset and by illumination.
