About this spot

This pedestrian-only bridge spans the Koma River (高麗川), which winds through Kinchakuda (巾着田) in Umehara, Hidaka City. At 91.2 meters long, it's one of the longest wooden truss bridges in Japan, and since its completion in 1996, it has become a sightseeing symbol of Kinchakuda, blending with the surrounding greenery. From the bridge you can look out over the flowing river and the greenery of Kinchakuda, an area also known for being covered in red spider lilies in autumn. Before heading to the Tanabata festival that begins at noon, stopping by in the morning to take in the riverside air is a pleasant way to start the day.

Tips

The area around the bridge gets crowded as the festival start time approaches, so start heading toward the venue early. The sun is strong at this time of day, so don't forget sun protection.

Best time to visit

About 25 minutes. This time, just before the festival begins, works well as part of your walk to the venue.
