An annual festival held on Zao Street where locals dance in creative costumes. In 2026, the festival runs August 13-14, and on the opening day, costumed dancers fill the street. The circle of dancers—a mix of inn guests and townspeople—is wrapped in an open and warm atmosphere unique to tourist destinations. The steam from hot springs and lantern light create a one-of-a-kind magical scene unique to this festival.

Tips
Vehicle traffic is restricted near the venue, so walking is safest. Costumes aren't required; you can enjoy just watching. However, participating deepens the sense of community. Bring a light layer as mountain nights can be cool.
Best time to visit
From 17:00 when lanterns are lit. The festival is most lively from 18:00 onwards when more costumed dancers appear.
