The central shopping street of Yamaguchi City spreads out as you return to the center from Joeiji Temple. With restaurants and cafes lining the street, it's perfectly positioned for a light meal before heading to Parkroad, the festival venue. During the festival period, a festive atmosphere permeates the entire shopping street, and you can enjoy your meal while observing Tanabata decoration preparations, a unique experience of this time of day.

2026年の山口七夕ちょうちんまつりは8月6日から7日までの2日間、山口市中心商店街とパークロード一帯を舞台に開催されます。山口ならではの丸くオレンジ色に彩られた「山口ちょうちん」が街路いっぱいに吊るされ、七夕の笹飾りとともに揺れる光景は、大内文化の香りを今に伝えるこの町らしい夏の風物詩です。夜が更けるにつれて浴衣姿の親子連れや若者たちで通りが埋め尽くされ、まち全体が幻想的な灯りに包まれます。今回のコースで訪ねる初日は、まつりが幕を開けたばかりの高揚感を味わえる日でもあります。
Tips
会場周辺は夕方以降、車両の通行規制がかかることがあるため、公共交通機関の利用が安心です。商店街は人通りが多くベビーカーでの移動はやや大変なので、抱っこ紐があると身動きが取りやすくなります。
Tips
After 5 PM the venue area becomes crowded, so having an early dinner around 4 PM gives you more time to relax. Pack light to make evening strolling through the shopping street easier.
Best time to visit
Takes about 40 minutes. Before 5 PM, shops are relatively less crowded.
