This museum utilizes the mansion of the Oda family, who prospered as oil merchants during the Edo period, and is designated as a nationally important cultural asset. Exhibits including a spacious earthen floor, account rooms, and storage warehouses showcase the lifestyle of prosperous merchants of that era. You can experience Yanai's history as a strategic hub of Seto Inland Sea trade. As one of the buildings epitomizing the white-wall and traditional tile-roofed townscape, it is the ideal starting point for exploring the white-wall area.

2026年8月13日、16時30分から21時まで開催される柳井金魚ちょうちん祭りは、国の重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に選ばれた白壁の町並みと麗都路通り一帯を舞台に行われます。柳井の伝統工芸「金魚ちょうちん」が軒先という軒先に吊るされ、夕暮れとともにやわらかな灯りをともす光景は、他の花火や太鼓中心の夏祭りとはひと味違う、静かで幻想的な美しさに満ちています。白壁の土蔵と赤白の金魚ちょうちんが織りなす夜景は、柳井を訪れるならぜひ見ておきたい夏の風物詩です。
Tips
開催時間が16時30分から21時までと限られているため、時間に余裕を持って会場入りするのがおすすめです。白壁の通りは狭い箇所もあり夕方以降混み合うので、小さな子ども連れは手をつないで歩きましょう。
