About this spot

This museum makes use of the residence of the Oda family, who prospered as oil merchants in the Edo period, and it's also designated a national Important Cultural Property. Displays of the spacious earthen-floor room, the counting room, storehouses, and more convey the lifestyle of a wealthy merchant of that era, letting you feel the history of Yanai's prosperity as a key hub of Seto Inland Sea trade. As one of the buildings symbolizing the white-walled, tile-roofed townscape, it's a fitting starting point for the stroll through the white-walled town that follows.

Tips

Located in the heart of the white-walled townscape, you can walk to other spots nearby right away. An admission fee is required. The interior is shaded, making it a good place to rest in summer as well.

About 45 minutes. Early afternoon allows for a leisurely visit.
