About this spot

The 2026 Yamagata Hanagasa Matsuri is held for three days from August 5-7 on the straight course through Yamagata City Center, one of the Four Major Festivals of Tohoku. Dancers carrying hanagasa adorned with safflower, Yamagata's specialty product, spin their umbrellas to the spirited calls of 'Yassho, Makasho,' creating a spectacular sight. The grand group dance of approximately 10,000 dancers radiates heat that even envelops spectators lining the street. The first day of this course is also a day to experience the excitement of the festival's opening.
