About this spot
A historic shopping street running through the center of Yamagata City, lined with restaurants, cafes, and long-established confectionery shops. Located near the straight course through the city center where the Hanagasa Matsuri is held, it's a convenient location for a quick meal before heading to the nighttime festival. As evening approaches, you'll see dancers in yukata heading to the festival, and the entire shopping street becomes filled with festive atmosphere.

2026年の山形花笠まつりは8月5日から7日までの3日間、山形市中心市街地の直線コースを舞台に開催される、東北四大祭りのひとつです。山形の特産品である紅花をあしらった花笠を手にした踊り手たちが、「ヤッショ、マカショ」の軽快な掛け声にあわせて笠を回しながら練り歩く姿は圧巻。1万人ともいわれる踊り手による大群舞が繰り出す熱気は、沿道の観客をも巻き込みます。今回のコースで訪ねる初日は、まつりが幕を開けたばかりの高揚感を味わえる日でもあります。
Tips
会場周辺は夕方以降、車両の通行規制がかかり大変混雑します。よい場所で観たいなら早めに沿道へ向かうのがおすすめです。飲み物をこまめに補給し、こまめな休憩を心がけましょう。
Tips
After 5 PM, the area around the venue becomes crowded, so having dinner by 4 PM provides more ease. Keep your belongings light to make evening viewing more comfortable.
