About this spot
Alongside Mito's Kairakuen and Kanazawa's Kenrokuen, this is counted as one of Japan's three famous gardens. Built during the Edo period, this daimyo garden features sweeping lawns, ponds, and artificial hills that create a pleasing landscape. The view of Okayama Castle from within the garden is also a highlight, naturally showing its proximity to the festival venue you'll visit next.

黒塗りの外観から「烏城」とも呼ばれる岡山城一帯を会場に、桃太郎まつりの一環として開かれる夏まつりです。会場には多くの屋台が並び、夕方から夜にかけて多くの家族連れでにぎわいます。夜にライトアップされた黒い天守と提灯の灯りが重なる景観は、岡山の夏を象徴する光景の一つです。
Tips
会場周辺は夕方から夜にかけて大変混雑するため、後楽園側や旭川沿いなど、人の流れに沿ってゆっくり移動しましょう。屋台での買い物には小銭を多めに用意しておくと便利です。
Tips
Just across a bridge over the Asahi River from Okayama Castle. Admission fee required. The spacious garden has areas with limited shade, so bring a hat and plenty of beverages in summer.
Best time to visit
Allow about 1 hour. Early afternoon hours are relatively less crowded and easier for strolling.
