Overlook the Seto Inland Sea's Scattered Islands from the Highland

A small lighthouse on Shiraishi Island's high ground that has long watched over ships passing through the Seto Inland Sea. From the lighthouse area, visitors can take in the scattered islands of the Seto Inland Sea and a hidden-gem view spot perfect for slowly watching the sky's color change toward evening. At a comfortable height to visit after beach swimming and ideal for family photos.

白石踊は、源平合戦で命を落とした武将たちを弔うために始まったと伝わる盆踊りで、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されています。2026年は8月13日から16日まで4夜連続で開催され(13日から15日は白石公民館、16日は白石島海水浴場が会場)、太鼓と音頭に合わせてゆったりと踊る優雅な振り付けが特徴です。踊り手たちが幾重にも輪を作り、月明かりと提灯の灯りの下で夜通し踊り続ける光景は、島全体が一体となる夏の風物詩。見るだけでなく、輪の外側から手ぶりを真似て一緒に踊ってみるのもおすすめです。初日となるこの夜は、島の人々の熱気を間近に感じられる特別な時間になります。
Tips
会場周辺の駐車スペースは限られるため、フェリーでの来島が安心です。帰りの最終便の時刻は事前に確認しておきましょう。夜は島内が暗くなるので、懐中電灯があると足元が安心です。

The walkway has unpaved sections—wear comfortable shoes. As evening approaches, sun angles make footing difficult; visit while daylight remains.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. Late afternoon light reflecting off the sea is especially recommended.
