About this spot
The Hanamaki Festival boasts a history of over 300 years and is one of the largest autumn festivals in Iwate Prefecture. From September 11–13, 2026, the festival unfolds over three days, with the central downtown Kamimachi and Festival Plaza area as the venue. Magnificently decorated festival floats adorned with colorful carvings and lavish ornamental figures parade through the streets, followed by bands of valiant deer dancers, portable shrines, and folk performing arts—a truly spectacular sight. Adjacent to the venue, a food stall village opens from 2 to 9 p.m. at Hanamaki Central Plaza, where you can enjoy street food while experiencing the heat of the festival.
