Flow of the course

About this spot

Toro Nagashi is a traditional Obon ritual held around Matsue Bridge and Shirakatacho Park, where the Oohashigawa River, which connects Lake Shinji and Nakaumi Lake, serves as the stage. On August 16, 2026, lit lanterns are successively placed on the water's surface to send off the spirits of ancestors, gently flowing down the darkened river. The fantastical sight, with its overlapping scenes of the National Treasure Matsue Castle and the landscape of the Water City of Matsue, quietly evokes the end of summer and creates an unforgettable moment for your family.
