The vast wooden-floored hall and vermillion five-story pagoda related to Toyotomi Hideyoshi
About this spot
A large lecture hall whose construction began in 1587 at the behest of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, affectionately known as 'Senjokaku' (Thousand-Mat Hall) because of its size equivalent to 857 tatami mats. The distinctive structure with low ceilings and incomplete finish tells the story of construction being halted due to Hideyoshi's death, and sea breezes pleasantly flow through the open space. The adjacent vermillion five-story pagoda is one of Miyaji's symbols, presenting beautiful views not only during cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, but also against the blue summer sky. Located on a high ground just a short walk from Miyaji Pier, it's a perfect starting point for your day.

Name:
Date & time: 8/29 (Sat) Time TBA
Venue:
Tips
Tips
About 10 minutes on foot from Miyaji Pier. Remove shoes before entering the wooden floor. Limited shade in summer, so bring drinks.
Best time to visit
Duration approximately 1 hour. Morning light softly illuminating the wooden hall is recommended.
