About this spot

This archive occupies the former Nagoya Court of Appeals, District Court, and Local Court building, built in the Taisho era. You can freely tour the Western-style architecture, which still vividly retains the feel of the era, including the central spiral staircase and a guest reception room. It's close to Nagoya Castle, making it a perfect stop as part of a historical walk around the castle town. The brick exterior is also very photogenic, making a nice memory of a family outing.

Tips

Admission is free, and most areas allow photography, though a few spots have restrictions, so check the signage. In summer, the air conditioning inside is a welcome relief from the heat, making it a good place to cool off. Touring areas like the former courtroom takes a little time, so allow yourself plenty of time to visit.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes. Early afternoon tends to be relatively uncrowded and easy to tour.
