A free museum at the base of the trail to Kasuga Castle Ruins, introducing the entire picture of Kasuga Castle—one of Japan's largest Sengoku-era mountain fortresses—through dioramas and videos. The museum features extensive panel displays about the castle's structure, which utilized an entire steep mountain as a fortress, as well as the life of Uesugi Kenshin. It's an ideal place to prepare before walking the historic sites. The climate-controlled interior also provides welcome relief from summer heat, and the facility offers many explanations geared toward children, making it perfect for family learning.

2026年の謙信公祭は8月21日から23日までの3日間、戦国最大級の山城として知られる春日山城跡のふもとを舞台に開催されます。越後の英雄・上杉謙信を偲ぶこの祭りでは、例年、甲冑をまとった武者姿の一団による行列など、戦国の世を思わせる催しが見どころとなっています。日が暮れて城跡に灯りがともる頃、家族連れや地元の人々が集まり、謙信ゆかりの地ならではの夜の雰囲気を味わいます。初日となる21日は3日間の祭りの幕開けとして、比較的落ち着いて見物できる日でもあります。
Tips
会場周辺は祭り期間中、駐車場が混み合いやすいため、公共交通機関や臨時駐車場の利用が安心です。夜は山あいで気温が下がることがあるので、羽織るものを一枚持っておくと安心。虫よけ対策もしておきましょう。

Admission is free. The museum has a parking lot, making it convenient for car visitors. Viewing the museum's exhibits will give you a clear understanding of Kasuga Castle's layout and make the subsequent historic site tour much more comprehensible.
