About this spot
A shopping street that preserves the history of Takada, which flourished as a castle town. The wooden covered passages called "gangi" (雁木), unique to this snow-heavy region, still stand. The district features the Takada World Theatre, known as one of Japan's oldest movie theaters, and traditional dining and food establishments scattered along streets of retro charm. It's an ideal time to have dinner and savor Takada's distinctive nostalgic atmosphere before the festival.

2026年の謙信公祭は8月21日から23日までの3日間、戦国最大級の山城として知られる春日山城跡のふもとを舞台に開催されます。越後の英雄・上杉謙信を偲ぶこの祭りでは、例年、甲冑をまとった武者姿の一団による行列など、戦国の世を思わせる催しが見どころとなっています。日が暮れて城跡に灯りがともる頃、家族連れや地元の人々が集まり、謙信ゆかりの地ならではの夜の雰囲気を味わいます。初日となる21日は3日間の祭りの幕開けとして、比較的落ち着いて見物できる日でもあります。
Tips
会場周辺は祭り期間中、駐車場が混み合いやすいため、公共交通機関や臨時駐車場の利用が安心です。夜は山あいで気温が下がることがあるので、羽織るものを一枚持っておくと安心。虫よけ対策もしておきましょう。
Tips
Roads around the festival area may become congested during the festival period, so allow extra travel time. The gangi passages remain walkable even in rain.
