The central shopping street that extends from Tokamachi Station to the festival venue. Before the festival begins, the atmosphere remains quiet, allowing you to leisurely walk past local shops and kimono-related stores. Some streets retain the covered arcade architecture typical of snow regions, offering insights into how the town adapts to heavy winters. Seeing the street's daytime character before it transforms with the festival's vibrant energy makes the nighttime transformation all the more impressive.

Tips

As the festival approaches, traffic restrictions may be implemented. If driving, it's best to arrive early. On sunny days, bringing a hat or umbrella is recommended.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes required. The relatively less crowded afternoon hours before the festival make for an easy walk.
