Utsunomiya's summer night under colorful Tanabata ornaments
About this spot
The 2026 Orion Tanabata Festival runs for four days from July 31 to August 3 along Orion-dori in central Utsunomiya. Colorful Tanabata ornaments fill the street overhead, attracting crowds of families in yukata and locals—a summer icon of Utsunomiya. The opening day, July 31, marks the beginning of the four-day festival. After spending the day visiting shrines and parks, you can enjoy a summer evening walking beneath colorful decorations and writing wishes on tanzaku strips.
