This ancient temple sits near the center of Maibara City. The dry-landscape garden at the rear of its grounds, 'Seiganji Garden,' was created in the Edo period and has been designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty. The tranquil scenery formed by moss-covered rock arrangements and carefully trimmed plantings has captivated many visitors through every season. Though located within the town, it's a place where you can forget the bustle and spend a calm stretch of time.
Tips
Within walking distance of Maibara Station. An admission fee is required. The tatami room where you view the garden is meant to be a quiet space, so if you're bringing small children, please be mindful of noise.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. The soft light from morning through midday shows the garden at its most beautiful.
