A reception hall built during the Meiji era as part of the Miike Coal Mine facilities, with Western-style architecture that retains the character of its time carefully preserved today. It is also one of the constituent assets of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Meiji Japan's Industrial Revolution Heritage," and stands as a precious structure telling the story of this region's prosperity through the coal industry. The elegant exterior and well-maintained gardens convey the region's former prosperity just by taking a stroll. Visiting this site together with the Manda Mine, the night market venue, brings the region's modernization story into sharper focus.
