About this spot

Held over two days, August 8 and 9, at Yu no Machi Plaza in front of Awara Yunomachi Station, this is one of the Hokuriku region's leading hot spring summer festivals. The sight of participants dressed in yukata, buckets and ladles in hand, boisterously splashing each other with hot spring water has a unique energy unlike any other festival, and it's lively enough to bring a smile just watching. Amid the steaming atmosphere unique to a hot spring town, drums and music join in, bringing the whole venue together in excitement. Families with children can also join in safely as long as they wear clothes they don't mind getting wet.

Tips

If you plan to get close to where the water-splashing happens, prepare clothes you don't mind getting wet and a change of clothes. For small children, check the surroundings to make sure the water isn't too hot before joining in. Check the organizer's announcements to see whether the event will proceed in bad weather.

Best time to visit

Food stalls open at 1:00 PM. Following the evening stage program, the excitement peaks around 8:15 PM when the water-splashing begins.
