A park built on the grounds of the former Mitsui Tagawa Mining Works, once the largest colliery in the Chikuho coal basin. The 45.5-meter-tall Two Smokestacks and the Tate-zutsu Derrick still stand, telling the story of the mine's vast scale. Designated as a National Registered Tangible Folk Cultural Property, the spacious grounds feature lawns and play equipment, making it ideal for both historical exploration and children's recreation. An ideal starting point for understanding Tagawa's coal-industry heritage.

田川郡大任町の道の駅おおとう桜街道を舞台に、2026年8月29日(土)から30日(日)まで朝10時から夜21時まで開かれる夏祭りです。道の駅の広場に屋台が立ち並び、日中から夜遅くまで地域の人たちでにぎわう、長い時間ゆったり楽しめるのが特徴です。日中の明るい時間帯は開放的な広場で過ごし、日が落ちてからは提灯の灯りとともに祭りらしい雰囲気に変わっていきます。この日は初日にあたり、両日開催のスタートを地元の熱気とともに迎えられます。

Tips

会場内の屋台で昼食・夕食を済ませられるので、朝は身軽に行動できます。駐車場は道の駅の利用者と兼用のため、夕方以降は混み合うことがあります。屋台は現金対応が中心のところも多いので小銭を用意しておくと安心です。夜は虫よけがあると快適に過ごせます。

Tips

We recommend visiting the adjacent Coal and History Museum as well. The grounds have limited shade in the morning, so stay hydrated. The parking lot is shared with the museum.
