A museum documenting the history of the Chikuho coal basin and the lives of its miners. Featuring Yamamoto Sakube's coal mining record paintings—registered as UNESCO Memory of the World—along with displays of mining tools and reconstructed scenes from inside the mine, visitors gain insight into the actual labor and living conditions of the era. Full-scale mine tunnel models and video materials make the work accessible to children. Viewing this alongside the Coal Memorial Park's industrial heritage provides a three-dimensional understanding of Chikuho's history.

田川郡大任町の道の駅おおとう桜街道を舞台に、2026年8月29日(土)から30日(日)まで朝10時から夜21時まで開かれる夏祭りです。道の駅の広場に屋台が立ち並び、日中から夜遅くまで地域の人たちでにぎわう、長い時間ゆったり楽しめるのが特徴です。日中の明るい時間帯は開放的な広場で過ごし、日が落ちてからは提灯の灯りとともに祭りらしい雰囲気に変わっていきます。この日は初日にあたり、両日開催のスタートを地元の熱気とともに迎えられます。

Tips

会場内の屋台で昼食・夕食を済ませられるので、朝は身軽に行動できます。駐車場は道の駅の利用者と兼用のため、夕方以降は混み合うことがあります。屋台は現金対応が中心のところも多いので小銭を用意しておくと安心です。夜は虫よけがあると快適に過ごせます。
