About this spot

A traditional event held from August 6-7, 2026, from 15:40 to 22:15, centered around the downtown Noshiro area and the mouth of the Yoneshiro River. Giant lantern figures called 'Yakichitanabata' decorated with samurai paintings parade through the streets before being carried to the mouth of the Yoneshiro River. As night deepens, 'Nebunagashi' is performed, where lanterns are set afloat in the river to wish for good health. The rows of lights floating on the dark river create a fantastical sight. As the finale of a day spent exploring Noshiro's pine forest, science museum, and historic architecture, savor this traditional summer event passed down in this region.
