This historic hot spring town has flourished as a therapeutic bathing resort since the Nanbu Domain era, with inns lining the streets not far from the Oyu Stone Circles. The hot spring town has a free footbath where you can rest your feet after a day of walking the ruins. The rising steam and the old-fashioned appearance of the traditional inns add a leisurely summer-afternoon atmosphere. Restore your energy here in preparation for the evening's Bon Odori.
Tips
It's handy to bring a towel for the footbath. As the spring water is strongly mineralized, avoid soaking for too long. You can also enjoy light snacks such as hot spring eggs from the shop while strolling.
