About this spot

This is “Nagano Binzuru” (長野びんずる), Nagano City's largest summer festival, held in the Daimoncho and Gondo (大門町・権堂) area, Zenko-ji's temple town. In 2026 it's held on Saturday, August 1, when dance troupes from companies and local communities parade through the streets in costumes of their own choosing, to the unique rhythm known as “Binzuru-san.” This course is arranged so that after walking through Zenko-ji's temple town by day, you experience those same streets wrapped in the excitement of dancing at night — a flow that lets you savor the whole of a Nagano summer.

Tips

On the day of the festival, large-scale traffic restrictions are put in place around the Daimoncho and Gondo area, making it difficult to enter by vehicle. Using public transportation is recommended. The dance route and timing can change from year to year, so check the latest information on-site or through official announcements.

Best time to visit

Dance troupes start gathering from around 5pm, and the energy peaks from 6pm onward, once the sun sets.
